Notable Facial Qualities: Other than what I have mentioned above, there is nothing worth noting about his face. However, he has a six-inch scar that runs along the underside of his right forearm.
Clothing: He wears clothes that are normally considered quite heavy for his district. He also always has a small necklace, which he wears tucked into his shirt, and a scarf. Other than this, he tends to wear clothing that is dark and comfortable with long-sleeves, even in the middle of summer. Occasionally his left sleeve is pushed up to the elbow.

Drinker(?): No... alcohol really messes with him...

Personality: Shaen is extremely curious about other cultures and people. He likes watching others, just to see if they will react how he thinks they will and (secretly) it brings him great pleasure when they do something contrary to what he expects. He also possesses above average intelligence. He has a soft spot for small children, animals and anything or anyone that cannot defend itself. For the most part, he tends to be kind and compassionate, though a bit reserved. He is quiet and prefers observation to direct action, even if this causes problems later on.
One strange thing about him is that he senses things and connects different colors and patterns (and sometimes sounds) to them. Whether he actually sees/hears these things or it is merely a strong association has yet to be seen.
Hobbies/Interests: Music (especially clarinet), cooking, learning about other places and people, arts and crafts
Fears/Phobias: I will just list a few in no particular order.
1. He is absolutely petrified of ghosts. And he believes that they exist and areprobably out to haunt him.
2. He is also afraid of knives or other sharp objects that are larger than about the size of a paring knife.
3. He is touch-phobic.
4. Possibly most importantly, he is afraid of conflict between people. Even though he was not directly involved, the war scarred him, more deeply than he is willing to admit, even if he realises it.

By having physical contact with someone, he is able to sense their deeper emotions and true intentions. Ideally, he is only gaining information during this, but sometimes, it goes both ways and the other person involved receives a glimpse of Shaen's state of mind.
3. Emotion Alteration and Removal (active): This takes an incredible amount of energy and concentration, but it allows him to project his emotional state onto someone else, thus altering theirs. He has also pulled emotions out of people before, but prefers not to do this, as it is both intrusive and has a high chance of backfiring.
4. Emotion Sensing through Other Media (passive): By hearing music or reading something that another person wrote, he can often sense the emotional state of the person who performed the music or wrote the words (etc).

From this, he learned to do it to others, beginning with his long-time friend and university roommate, Mark Johnson. Since then, he's been doing (fairly controlled) experiments on his own time.
Notable Flaws with Power set: Due to the nature of his power, he is also potentially unstable and easily influenced, particularly when he is tired. His mind is constantly going and he is extremely inattentive for the majority of the time. Because of this, sometimes he seems disrespectful of others.
He is also really easily overwhelmed by people and tends to spend as much of his spare time alone as possible. He cannot always separate himself from other people, which can also lead to some interesting situations. He is also extremely sensitive to the effects of alcohol. As in, he shouldn't be allowed to have any. At all.
There are also times when he cannot quite tell if he is imagining how he or other people are feeling. Or if he is actually feeling it.

His parents doted on him and his younger sister, Tiriel, who is his junior by only a year. However, when he was in primary school, the world was devastated by the War. Overnight, his entire life changed. His parents, diplomats at the time, had gone across the state to Seattle for negotiatons with their northern neighbor and while they were staying over there, the city was bombed by enemy forces. He and his sister were taken into custody by their uncle, a sociology professor at the University.
During the years that followed, strange things began to happen. While Tiri began complaining that she was seeing spectres, Shaen forcefully buried his past behind him. He pushed away everything that reminded him of his parents, save his sister, and began focusing in on his school work. During this time, he also picked up clarinet, which helps him relieve stress. Though he was teased for being quite sensitive, he tried to push away everything, which, to his chagrin, worked rather well until he began university.
For the first year and a half at university, things got progressively worse for him. The war was finally mostly over, and all over the television, all he saw was the fighting of the aftermath. It even got so bad that baseball (yes, the Great American Pasttime) had to be cancelled, due to a lack of participation. More and more frequently, he began feeling ill. It even got so bad that he missed classes more often than not and when he went to the doctor, they sent him back home, saying that nothing was wrong with him, though perhaps he should consider seeing a psychiatrist. He flat-out refused this offer.
For most people, life began to get back to normal. Cities were rebuilt, though the great cities that lined the western coast of the USA - Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles - were only a fragment of their original glory. Upon the advice of his level-headed roommate, Shaen learned how to temper his reactions, as it would be essential before he learned to instruct others. He began to experiment with his abilities in a very controlled manner. First, he learned to distinguish between what he was feeling and how other people around him felt. Following that, he came up with methods to keep himself calm and personable, even if he did not feel like it.
Since that time, he has been offered an internship under the Regional Governor in an advisory position. He is primarily responsible for keeping things smooth behind the scenes, though just a few weeks ago, the Governor requested Shaen's assistance at the big conference in the Leonis Factions territory. Although Shaen is looking forward to meeting other people from different parts of the world, he is a bit apprehensive about the conference, as there is a great potential for disaster.
